Justice League Synopsis and Logo Revealed

After the largely negative response to Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Warner Bros have gone to great lengths to restore fans faith in the fledgling DC Extended Universe. Inviting a selection of the entertainment press down to London to see the Justice League movie being filmed, that course correction seems to have offered burgeoning hope to those still feeling slightly burned by Zack Snyder’s bruising Man of Steel follow up.

While we won’t know if the ‘lighter’ and more ‘colourful’ tone of Justice League will pay off for another year and a half, Warners have provided both a new logo and a synopsis for the now standalone Justice League movie – although there seemed to be some confusion over whether it would be actually be one or two movies.

Before we get into some of the on-set details, here’s the official synopsis:

“Fuelled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes — Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash -— it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.“

Directed by Zack Snyder, this marks the big screen debut of the Justice League, featuring an all-star lineup: Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher.”

Expanding on some of the details in the synopsis, the newly formed Justice League will pursue three Mother Boxes – one for the Amazonians, one for the Atlanteans, and one for humanity – all three of which come from Apokolips. The boxes form the macguffin of this movie. The Parademons and their boss, Steppenwolf – yes he’s in it – are hunting them down.

So for now, they’ll be no Darkseid to ‘unite the seven’ but expect the New God to be lurking in the shadows. After all, as Lex said: ‘He is coming’.

As for other juicy details, Ben Affleck’s Batman will be gaining a new vehicle called “The Flying Fox” to transport his teammates in; a tank-like vehicle called “The Nightcrawler;” but also updated armor and a new suit by the film’s end, whose differences will largely be unseen. The Flash will have cobbled together his initial costume in the film with pieces of stolen tech, including heating tiles as seen on the bottom of the space shuttle – some of which might have been lifted from WayneTech. Cyborg’s costume will be 100% CGI and Wonder Woman’s is the same as seen in Batman v Superman.

What’s more, Willem Dafoe has also been confirmed to be playing the role of Vulko, an Atlantean that is Aquaman’s mentor. And finally, Ben Affleck confirmed that he will direct the upcoming solo Batman movie but that he won’t begin production on it until the script is ready.

Justice League will be released November 10, 2017.
