Beverly Hills Cop 4 Finds Its Director(s)

It’s been through many incarnations on its way back to the big screen -  there’s the TV series that failed to make it past the pilot stage, another instalment that was meant to be with us this year but those plans were binned last June, and several other aborted scripts – but now the banana is very much back in the tailpipe as Beverly Hills Cop IV has found its directors.

You’ll note the plural there as it’s the directing pair of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah who have landed the gig.

According to Deadline, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and star Eddie Murphy loved the directors' film Black, which won the Discovery Award at the Toronto Film Festival last year. The film sees a 15-year-old girl in a black gang in Brussels face a choice between love and loyalty when she falls for a Moroccan boy from a rival gang.

Producer Bruckheimer subsequently scheduled a meeting with the pair and learned that they worship the original BHC movie and now, they’ve decided to take a chance on the relative newcomers.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol writers Andre Nemec and Josh Applebaum are the pair tasked with cracking wise for Axel, who, this time out will be returning to his Detroit roots.

So we can assume that it must please star Eddie Murphy, who back in January told Rolling Stone that he had some very specific requirements for the fourth instalment:

“I’m not doing a Beverly Hills Cop unless they have a really incredible script. They're trying to get it right. I’ve read a couple things that look like they can make some paper, but I’m not doing a shitty movie just to make some paper. The shit got to be right."

Consider yourself told.

All we need now is Harold Faltermeyer and we're good to go!
