Konami Confirms Shut Down of Kojima Productions Los Angeles

The internet was awash with rumour again yesterday concerning the fate of Kojima Productions Los Angeles studio. Today, Konami has sent out a statement confirming the studio's closure.

The studio was first formed in 2013 to work on Metal Gear Solid V and Metal Gear Online 3 but was renamed Konami Los Angeles Studio earlier this year during the Kojima-Konami debacle. In their official statement, Konami wrote: "[We have] made the decision to close its Los Angeles Studio, effective immediately, due to the product development resources being restructured into a more centralized unit."

As the rumours continued to spread yesterday, PC owners became fearful that this closure would contribute to a quiet cancellation of the delayed PC version of Metal Gear Online. However, Konami stated "this facility contributed to the recent Metal Gear Solid games. Konami will continue its operations to support all Metal Gear Solid titles, including the recently launched Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Online. Metal Gear Online is still scheduled to release for PC Steam in January 2016."

As for Kojima himself, it has not yet been confirmed whether or not the director has left Konami permanently. Last time Konami mentioned Kojima's departure, the company expressed he was simply taking a break after a long development cycle.
