Spencer: Fable Has 'A Lot Of Places That It Could Go'

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has said the Fable franchise is likely to see a comeback at some stage, remarking it has 'many places to go' in the future.

With the closure of Lionhead Studios in 2016 and the cancellation of Fable: Legends it looked as if the end was nigh for the fantasy series, created by Peter Molyneux and his studio. It seems Microsoft hasn't written off the IP entirely.

Molyneux himself left Microsoft some time ago and went on to form his new independent 22cans studio. The future of Fable might not even be an action RPG considering where Fable: Legends was taking the franchise while still at Lionhead Studios, which was more multiplayer focused.

As of right now no Fable project is known to be in the works, whether a full instalment or another spin-off. Fable III released back in October 2010 for Xbox 360 and in May 2011 for PC under the now abandoned Games for Windows Live platform. Spin-offs for the series included 2012's Fable Heroes and Fable: The Journey.

Fable Anniversary was a remake of the original Fable: The Lost Chapters in Unreal Engine 3 in September 2014.
