According to the producer of Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Kazumasa Habu, the game was never supposed leave the PlayStation Vita but, considering the lack of attention Western players give the Vita, changes had to be made.

Talking to DuelShockers, Habu said "Relating to PS4 version, we had decided on it when we decided to create the localized version. As such it was not planned from the beginning."

"So one of the reasons for is because of the differential gaming market in Japan and Western. Of course in Japan they prefer the PS Vita compared to the US and West where there are more sales for PS4 rather than the handheld. Maybe in the future, with more sales from local we can consider a PS4 version for Japan."

There's a handful of differences between the Western PlayStation 4 version and the original PlayStation Vita version including graphical improvements, gameplay balancing, and difficulty hiccups when it came to boss battles, all sourced from player feedback in Japan.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth is currently dated for a 2016 release.
