Director Rupert Wyatt Leaves X-Men Standalone Gambit Film

Having already avoided one potential setback when, back in July, star Channing Tatum looked set to leave before production had begun, now a second confirmed setback has befallen Fox’s X-Men spinoff Gambit – director Rupert Wyatt has left the project.

According to a statement released by the directors PR representatives, the deciding issue was purely time constraints: “I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project. I thank them for the opportunity, and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film."

However, rumours circulate that script and budgetary issues necessitated more development time before the film went into production. Not to mention attempts to align the production so that footage of New Orleans’ Mardi Gras can be captured has also affected the dates.

So far, there’s been no confirmation that the altered schedule will affect anyone else involved in the film like the recently announced Léa Seydoux who was offered the part of Belladonna Bourdreaux.
