Rejoice, ye fans of period crime dramas, for Ripper Street is here for two more years at least. Amazon have announced that their third series of the BBC show garnered a lot of viewers and have confirmed two more seasons are in the works.

The show, which follows police officers patrolling the Whitechapel district in the aftermath of the Jack the Ripper murders originally aired on the BBC in the UK before being dropped after its second season. However, Amazon acquired the rights to the show soon after and produced a third season which is available on Amazon Prime Instant Video in the UK, but not as of yet in the US, where the show aired on BBC America.

Filming is set to begin any time for the show's fourth season and lead actor Matthew Mcfadyen seems very happy to be returning, stating "I'm delighted to be embarking on another dose of Ripper Street - blood and guts, pocket watches and Victorian head-gear, wonderfully dark, moving and mysterious story lines from Mr Richard Warlow. Thanks Amazon."

Ripper Street Season four has no release date as of yet, but if last season was anything to go by we can expect it to launch at the end of the years on Prime in the UK, before airing about six months later on BBC America.
