Steven Spielberg: No One Can Replace Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones

Sorry Chris Pratt but in Steven Spielberg’s eyes, they’ll only ever be one Indiana Jones for Indy 5.

Recently Harrison Ford spoke about Star Wars and his career in general where he confided that he’d be more than happy to don the fedora once again. And according to series director Steven Spielberg, no one else could or should take on the mantel of Dr. Jones.

Speaking with Screen International, Spielberg made his feelings clear.

“I don’t think anyone could replace Harrison as Indy, I don’t think that’s ever going to happen,” he said, denying recent rumours that someone such as Chris Pratt could take over the fedora and whip. “It’s certainly not my intention to ever have another actor step into his shoes in the way there have been many actors that have played Spider-Man or Batman. There is only going to be one actor playing Indiana Jones and that’s Harrison Ford.”

Or River Phoenix…

Still with Kathleen Kennedy and the Lucasfilm team eager to make more movies from their big properties for Disney, nothing will get made unless Spielberg wants to. It does appear that he’s still eager.

“…There are more adventures out there than films,” he says. “So as long as there’s more adventures out there, I’ve got a bullwhip, a fedora, a leather jacket and a man on a horse who knows how to get the job done.”
