Total War: Warhammer Launches Today, Server Load Issues Hamper WAAAGH!

Creative Assembly and SEGA today release Total War: Warhammer, which has received high critical acclaim from the big name publications. WAAAGH! isn't going smoothly yet.

This new Total War is a significant shake-up for a long-running strategy series that until now has never touched on fantasy elements, but Warhammer has overrun the real-time/turn-based hybrid with magic and fantastical races and creatures.

The huge crush of players wanting to get into their campaigns of conquest are hitting a snag right now: server load issues. Tens of thousands are a little too much for their servers at the moment and SEGA is said to be scrambling to address the issue. Right now they advise putting Steam into offline mode to side-step the problem.

That hiccup aside, Total War: Warhammer is finally unleashed on PC and thankfully doesn't seem to have the same initial performance baggage as Total War: Rome 2, which introduced the all-new settlement and region system to Total War.

The Chaos Warriors Race Pack DLC is also entirely free for this first launch week and is included as a pre-order bonus. Originally it was only a pre-order promotion but Creative and SEGA changed their minds after pressure from the community.

They recently launched a full 360 degree gameplay trailer, which begged the question; why don't more game studios do that? Total War: Warhammer is available now on PC.
