If you grew up on a steady diet of Nintendo 64 and RareWare, your prayers have been answered in full as the spiritual successor 'Yooka-Laylee' was fully funded on Kickstarter in less than 40 minutes.

The game, which intends on bringing back the "buddy-duo" genre by storm, has already blasted through almost 80% of its stretch goals, hitting £1,014,669 from 28,430 backers as of writing. The game will take place across five unique worlds with gameplay "built for fun" and a dream soundtrack combining the talents of David Wise (Donkey Kong Country) and Grant Kirkhope (Banjo-Kazooie).

From the Kickstarter, developer Playtonic Games said:

"Our new heroes, Yooka (the green bloke with no pants) and Laylee (the wisecracking lady-bat with the big nose) were conceptualised from the ground up for stellar platforming gameplay, created by the same character artist behind the rebooted Donkey Kong family and legendary N64 heroes Banjo and Kazooie.

Using an arsenal of special moves like Yooka’s tongue grapple and Laylee’s tactical sonar blast, players will explore – and expand – gorgeous 3D worlds drawn up by esteemed environment artist Steven Hurst (Banjo-Kazooie series, Viva Pinata) and through skill discover the plethora of delicious collectibles hidden within."

Since hitting their stretch goal, the game is heading for a simultaneous release on consoles; Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Wii U. The game will also hit PC, Mac, Linux and is currently expecting an October 2016 release, later for consoles.
