Bryan Fuller may be at San Diego Comic Con primarily to talk about American God’s but he’ll also be hosting a Star Trek 50th anniversary panel, where he’ll no doubt be grilled on the new Star Trek series due in January.

One thing he won’t need to answer is who’s directing the ‘pilot’ episode – the show has already been given a straight to series order – after it’s been announced that David Semel will be taking the job of launching the latest voyages

Semel is a veteran of directing pilots having already handled the difficult first steps of several shows. Other shows he worked on include Heroes, Person of Interest, and CBS' own Madam Secretary. He also helped kick off Amazon's The Man in The High Castle and has form on a Fuller show via Hannibal.

He’s a solid, if not exactly headline grabbing appointment. In fact, Star Trek has history of hiring experienced journey and Semel is a perfect choice in that regard. Fuller is heading up the new series and so far, details have been kept under tight lock and key.

What we do know is that the new series will air in the US on CBS in January before switching to the company's All Access system, but will be available outside the States via Netflix – however that will most probably change come the panel.

That’s not all the Star Trek goodness that 2016 promises. There’s a giant art show at SDCC and there’s also a new documentary about Leonard Nemoy, called For the Love of Spock, coming soon too.
