New Willy Wonka Film in the Works

Come with me, and you’ll be, in a world of pure Roald Dahl estate negotiations...

Warner Bros. have successfully negotiated the rights to make a Willy Wonka prequel movie, focusing on the earlier exploits of the renowned chocolate factory owner/child torturer.

Unlike the 1971’s Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory – which stared the late, great Gene Wilder, or Tim Burton's 2005 Johnny Depp-as-Wonka effort Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, this is planned as a standalone movie about Wonka’s early adventures travelling across the world and beyond to find exotic ingredients that would fuel his confectionery creations.

Variety has reported that Harry Potter producer David Heyman is developing the film with The Secret Life Of Pets contributor Simon Rich writing the script for the film, which seems unlikely to feature Charlie or anyone else (sorry Grandpa Joe) but might lead to yet another take on the factory story if this first film is successful.

Which, I hear you cry, means that soon we might be able to see Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator on the big screen…which is…well it’s something I guess…
