Cutting Down April's Nintendo Direct into Bite Sized Chunks!

Yesterday, Nintendo announce oodles of new information through a Direct presentation. If you missed the show and you don't have 45 spare minutes today, here's a brief round-up of what we saw.

Wii U

  • Amongst the reveal of MewTwo and Lucas for Super Smash Bros 4, Nintendo would also like you to vote for the next Smash Bros fighters, which you can do here. The deadline for submissions will be October 13.
  • The Wii U virtual console will release Nintendo 64 and Nintendo DS games. The former will range from $10 to $12 while DS games will run you about $7 - $10. Currently, four games are available to purchase including Super Mario 64 and WarioWare Touched.
  • Coming April 23, Mario Kart 8 will receive a free content patch which will unlock the super-fast 200cc cup!
  • On the same day, Nintendo will release the new Mario Kart 8 DLC pack featuring an Animal Crossing track as well as plenty of Amiibo-unlockable Mii racer outfits including Pac-Man, Captain Olimar, Megaman, Sonic the Hedgehog and more.
  • An Amiibo-based app will also make its way onto the Wii U called 'Amiibo Tap: Nintendo's Greatest Bits". With this app, tapping an Amiibo onto the gamepad will unlock a three-minute demo version of a Nintendo classic.
  • Further announcements for the console include release dates for 'Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem', 'Pandora's Tower', 'Sin and Punishment: Star Successor', 'Splatoon', 'Yoshi's Woolly World' and 'Mario Maker', all of which you can track with our consistently updated release calendar. 

Nintendo 3DS

  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf launches 'Happy Home Designer' which takes Nintendo's Amiibo collectable card concept to allow more interior decoration for your home. The cards will be compatible with the NEW 3DS and older models via the NFC Reader/Writer product, releasing this Autumn.
  • New StreetPass games are on their way; StreetPass Fishing (Ultimate Angler) and StreetPass Zombies (Battleground Z). As well as this, a premium Plaza update will allow you to add additional information to your Mii, as well as store up to 100 Mii's in a special VIP room. These items will cost around $5 each.
  • Further announcements for the handheld including a new 'Fire Emblem' trailer and release dates for 'Pokemon Rumble World', 'Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains' and 'Boxboy', all available to track on our calendar.
