Guillermo del Toro to Adapt Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark

Guillermo del Toro is looking to get back in the horror business with an adaptation of Alvin Schwartz's book trilogy Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark.

The three short story collection kicked off the series in 1981, becoming massive best sellers spinning folklore and urban legends into brand new yarns – and that’s even with the stories often being banned from libraries for being too frightening for children.

Such nightmare fuel was always bound to draw del Toro - he owns prints of several of illustrator Stephen Gammell's images from them (see his tweet on the topic below) – and he has worked with writer John August to develop a script based on some aspect of them for CBS Films.

There’s no new yet as to whether he’ll direct or produce the project that seems very close to his black, black heart.
