Yu Suzuki Reckons He "Could Do with a Bit More Money"

Despite its record-breaking Kickstarter campaign and additional backing from Sony and Shibuya Productions, Yu Suzuki doesn't think Shenmue 3 has enough money to have the desired gameplay and be visually stunning.

Suzuki spoke to Eurogamer saying, "I could do with a bit more money! The game itself doesn't have to be gorgeous visually - a lot of the money these days goes into the graphics. If we perhaps compromise on the graphics and put more into the story, we can make a good game. The most important thing, to me, is that the game's interesting, and that it's something people want to play."

Shenmue 3's development was goal-based from the beginning, according to Suzuki. "We had goals set around the budget - so if we only got $6 million, we'd create Shenmue 3 based upon what we could do with that $6 million."

The developer will continue to try and gather funds now that the Kickstarter campaign has finished. Shenmue 3 itself will supposedly see the light of day during Christmas 2017.
