Get Ready for Die Hard... With a Reboot

Yikes. Don’t get mad at us but this isn’t going to go down well. After the diminishing returns of A Good Day to Die Hard (it did decent business but is low ranked in the US and with critics alike) it looks like Fox want to take the Die Hard franchise in a new direction…

Get ready for Die Hard…with an Origin Story.

Are you ready to see a young John McClane? Because Deadline are reporting that producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and director Len Wiseman, the latter of which made Die Hard 4.0 (AKA Live Free Or Die Hard) are locked in a deal to handle the new one and are looking for a writer to hash out the basic idea, which has Bruce Willis return as the present-day John McClane in bookend segments that will introduce us to the character as he was in the 1970s, a beat cop working New York’s tough streets.

Now, you might be thinking: How is any of this necessary? Didn’t we see him become the man we know in Die Hard itself? Isn’t it a bit of a raw deal for the actor who’ll take on that role; having Bruce Willis in the same film to draw unfavourable comparisons? And isn’t it just admitting that you can’t better the first film?

Anyway, its early days for this potential instalment/reboot, so we’ll hold fire before passing judgement…but feel free to wade in!
