Here's What You Missed From Ubisoft's E3 Show
After a half hour pre-show which involved teasing For Honor, showing off cosplay, and sparking up the YOU-BEE-SOFT/OO-BEE-SOFT pronunciation argument once again, the Ubisoft E3 show followed Microsoft. Did you catch it? If not, here's a run-down of what you missed.
- After a psychedelic performance, pulled straight out of Noel Fielding's scrapbook and set to the sound of Queen's 'Don't Stop Me Now', Just Dance 2017 is revealed. A moment is taken to remember the recent tragedy in Orlando, Florida before taking a "hard right turn to the fun stuff".
- Just Dance 2017 will be coming to PC and consoles in October, and the NX next year which may be the first time the NX has been mentioned during the conferences.
- Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands returns after "blowing our fucking minds" at the end of last year's conference with a brand new cinematic trailer, followed by live gameplay.
- The premise of the game is simple: what if a Mexican drug cartel takes over Boliva, turning it into the largest cocaine lab in the world? You will have to disrupt the alliance between the government and the cartel by any means necessary, alone or with a group of up to four as seen in the gameplay below.
- Who will take the necessary steps to save the world from its cynical fate? Children in superhero costumes, says Trey Parker and Matt Stone in their latest South Park project South Park: The Fractured But Whole. The kids have dropped the staves and the beards in favour of superhero costumes so the New Kid is no longer the king, but a regular scrub again.
- Parker and Stone took to the stage to talk about the title, stating a civil war has fallen upon the children due to a conflict in their potential three-phase movie franchise. You'll have a dozen classes to mix and match, utilising new skills in the improved combat system which offers movement and the ability to tear the fabric of time with your flatulence.
- The game will also apparently feature a moment where you help Kanye West take his mother to heaven, parodying the rapper's potential video game. If you pre-order the game, you'll also get a free copy of South Park: The Stick of Truth immediately. South Park: The Fractured But Whole will release on December 6th.
- Tom Clancy's The Division came up next, offering details on the Underground expansion which will offer endless replayability due to the randomly-generated missions. It'll be coming June 28 for PC and Xbox One, and August for PlayStation 4.
- In order to celebrate the 30th birthday of Ubisoft, three exclusive outfits will be coming to members of Ubisoft Club based on Ghost Recon, Rainbow 6, and Splinter Cell.
- Additionally, the second expansion for The Division has been revealed as Survival where you'll have to fight in brutal weather conditions as the blizzard worsens, hunting for the limited supplies for as long as you can last.
- Following The Division is the VR segment of the show offering a brief demo of one of Eagle Flight's multiplayer modes called Capture The Prey, featuring Oculus Founder Palmer Luckey.
- For Ubisoft, VR is all about creating games that were not possible previously and opening up the final frontier. A brief trailer was shown featuring Levar Burton, Karl Urban, Jeri Ryan, and David Votypka to introduce the concept of Star Trek: Bridge Crew.
- As explained by Levar Burton on-stage, the game lets you feel like you're actually there compared to actually being on set where you have to rely on your imagination alone. You'll have to work together with the Captain, the engineer, and the rest of the crew in order to complete your mission, and "what's more Star Trek than that?".
- Doom comes to us all in the new cinematic trailer for the highly anticipated For Honor where desperation and trust are rarely allies. Finally, we're given a slice of the background story for the title which has 1000 years of war behind it, as well as a beefy chunk of gameplay following the previously unseen Viking tribe.
- Our favourite wobbly red robot returns in the trailer for Grow Up where you'll have an entire planetary playground to take a whack at come this August.
- Trials and Blood Dragon give birth to the horrible problem child, classily named Trials of the Blood Dragon! It's out right now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
- Time for talk about the upcoming Assassin's Creed movie with famous producer Frank Marshall. The movie was touted as staying faithful to the original source material but also bringing something new to the franchise followed by this interesting behind the scenes featurette.
- DEDSEC take over the stage to warn you that you are being used by big business and social media to help elect their familiar-looking puppet of a politician, before jumping into gameplay footage of Watch Dogs 2. This time around, you'll be stepping into the shoes of a hacktivist with a team behind him, as well as a collection of new hacking abilities.
- Watch Dogs 2 will continue a partnership with Sony, offering PlayStation players access to content before anybody else. Additionally, Sony is definitely working on a Watch Dogs movie but we think we'll be waiting for a while before we see anything solid about that.
- If you decide to preorder Watch Dogs 2, despite the backlash from the original game, you'll get yourself a little RC robot buddy.
- Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemont takes to the stage to announce the company's new IP as he's known to enjoy. This time around, it's a whole new genre which blends action sports with open-world elements; challenge friends and share adventures in Steep.
- The game is set partially in the Alps where, once you're ready, you can drop into one of the defined zones or play by your own rules. We're shown a demo of a wing suit proximity race which offers insight on the point of the game; the thrill of action sports and the ability to capture the perfect moments whether that's an incredible jump or somebody hitting a mountain at 60 miles per hour, unleashing a horrifying crunch and scream we definitely didn't expect!
- Every line you perform will be logged and create a trail which you can use to launch a replay to capture the moment or define a rule and create a challenge for your friends to take on. The game is all about the thrill of the sports but, also, enjoying the mountains around you with friends.
- There's a beta that you can sign up for now but the game will ship in December if you don't get in. Then, as the show ends, Yves brought out the developers from the show to thank the loyal audience and remind us of the company's history.
