First Trailer for Rocky Spin-Off Creed

Going toe to toe with your expectations, Creed – the spin-off come seventh Rocky movie, debuted its first trailer last night.

In the first new entry for the franchise since Rocky Balboa, the film sees Boxing champ Apollo Creed’s son, Adonis Creed (no pressure then with that name) keen to follow in his father’s footsteps (hopefully not the punched into the next life by Ivan Drago footsteps), with his father’s foe turned friend Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) agreeing to train the young upstart.

The film hails from Jordan's Fruitvale Station director Ryan Coogler and is co-written with Aaron Covington.

It’s an impressive mix of familiar Rocky beats and indie credentials and seemingly continues the strong character work of Rocky Balboa – including having Creed (Michael B. Jordan) repeat the ‘It ain’t about how hard you hit…’ speech despite the fact Rocky only told that to his son. Unless everybody saw that X-Box One ad…or dug out their Rocky boxsets.

Co-starring Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad and Tony Bellew, Creed opens in the US on 25 November 2015, before opening in the UK on 27 November.
