Edgar Wright, Bret Mckenzie and Johnny Depp Working on Neil Gaiman Adaptation

In perhaps the greatest collection of talent since The Travelling Wilburys, Edgar Wright will direct Johnny Depp in a Neil Gaiman adaptation Fortunately, The Milk with a script by Flight of the Conchords’ Bret McKenzie.

The book is about a dad left alone with the kids, who nips out to buy some milk and ends up embroiled in an adventure consisting of time travel, dinosaurs, aliens and much more. Or, at least, that’s what he tells the kids when he eventually arrives home.

Bret McKenzie has already written the script based on Neil Gaiman and illustrator Chris Riddell’s 2013 novel, Edgar Wright is signed up to direct and Johnny Depp is on board to star and produce. Presumably he’ll play the dad, not a dinosaur or a child.

The film is reportedly being pitched to Fox at the moment, with the idea being to blend live action with animation to bring dad’s fantastical story to life.

In the meantime, there’s the small matter of Wight’s Baby Driver to complete before, and if, Fox decide to bankroll the idea (and with that line-up, who wouldn’t?)
