Last week, Ben Affleck took the unusual step of teasing fans by revealing a video via twitter concerning his future standalone Batman film, rumoured to be called The Batman, wherein he gave fans a brief glimpse of the vilain Deathstroke, albeit one in his costume who didn't speak.

Now we know who will be filling the suit.

The Wall Street Journal has learned that Magic Mike's Joe Manganiello (who had previously been rumoured) has the role. DC Entertainment President and chief creative officer Geoff Johns let slip the casting information in an interview, though he refused to comment on whether Deathstroke will first show up in next year's Justice League.

For those not in the know, Deathstroke was the creation of Marv Wolfman and George Perez. He first appeared in Teen Titans #2 in 1980. Know to his mom as Slade Wilson, Deathstroke is an assassin for hire, a brutal mercenary who’s more often than not found in Green Arrows rogue’s gallery – the two-timer – but, he’s crossed paths with the Dark Knight on multiple occasions, perhaps most memorably in the 1991 Deathstroke comic story arc titled City Of Assassins, where he beat the Dark Knight to a pulp…Yep, he’s a bad ass.

The Batman doesn’t have an official release date yet but we can expect it to stand vigilantly in cinemas after we join up with the Justice League on November 17 next year.
