It’s confirmed. Bryan Singer’s next film will be 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

With X-Men: Apocalypse deep in post-production, director Bryan Singer has confirmed that once he’s finished wrangling mutants, he’ll be diving headlong into Jules Verne’s classic novel.

20th Century Fox has inked a deal to make the film with Singer. Rick Sordelet and Dan Studney are penning the screenplay, with production set to begin this autumn.

It’s likely that the film will hit cinemas in 2018 but nothing has been confirmed just yet.

The book is a childhood favourite of Singers who told Deadline: “I’m incredibly excited to be working with my friends at Fox, with whom I’ve had such a long and fruitful relationship,” he said. “Ever since I was a boy and first discovered the 1870 Jules Verne novel, I have dreamt of retelling this classic story. Without revealing too much, it contains not only the original characters of Captain Nemo, Ned Land and Professor Aronnax, but also some new and original characters and Sci Fi plot twists culminating in a timeless adventure for all ages.”
