Obsidian's Tyranny RPG Debuts At E3 With Gameplay Trailer

Sometimes the bad guy wins; that's the premise of Obsidian Entertainment's new RPG Tyranny where the forces of evil have won the day with the last battle fought. Now what?

Just because the evil side wins doesn't mean there's not civilisation to run and that's what Tyranny looks to explore. Kyros the Overlord and his legions now have the world in their grasp and it's our role as a Fatebinder to pass judgement on the people left.

"A lot of RPGs start you out as the weak or inexperienced character who becomes more important and influential over time. This parallels how your character grows in strength and power as they gain levels, so it’s a structure that works well for RPGs,” explained project director Brian Heins in an update.

"For Tyranny, we wanted to play with that concept. Does the player need to start off weak in order to feel more powerful later in the game? We decided to make the player important from the very beginning of the game, from the very first interaction with an NPC.”

Tyranny will  be handling a more 'nuanced evil' as opposed to just slaughtering everything in sight, he continued. Things won't be so black and white when it comes to judging something to be moral or not. Our decisions will alter the shape of the world around us.

Tyranny releases on PC later in 2016 and is being published by Paradox Interactive.
