New Ghost in the Shell Behind the Scenes Featurette

So far, our view of Ghost in the Shell has consisted mostly of brief glimpses of action shrouded in static but now, thanks to this Behind the Scenes featurette, we’ve had our most conventional look at what the movie might be like as star Scarlett Johansson and director Rupert Sanders talk working on the film while showing some behind the scenes action.

And, on hand to give his own seal of approval/calm any jittery nerves about the controversial casting of Scarlett Johannsson, is Mamoru Oshii, director of the 1995 anime version.

Based on the manga originated by Masamune Shirow, Johansson’s character The Major is a special ops cyborg, head of an elite task force known as Section 9. The team, working for Hanka Robotics, is tasked with tracking down The Laughing Man, a terrorist with a personal vendetta against all of Hanka’s cyber technology. Pilou Asbæk is Batou, the second-best fighter in the section and The Major's trusted lieutenant, with Juliette Binoche, Takeshi Kitano, Michael Pitt and Kaori Momoi also appearing.

Ghost in the Shell is out on 31 March next year.
