Chris Columbus on Keeping the Gremlins, Goonies Reboots Alive

Launching a one man war on your childhood, Chris Columbus, the writer of the original Gremlins and The Goonies has admitted the potential reboot of both films would suffer if not for his enthusiasm for them.

However before you burn him in effigy, he told ScreenCrush that his continued involvement has more to do with protecting the originals, rather than cashing in on both: "The stuff that I’m involved with — the Gremlins and Goonies reboots, for instance — they would do that without me. So, I’m staying involved just so I can be protective and actually protect what people love about those movies so it doesn’t go off track.”

So like his namesake is he sailing off into uncharted territory to find an undiscovered place where all reboots aren't soul-crushing cash grabs? Or is he just inflating his own importance to make sure nobody else gets a taste of that sweet, sweet new land?
