Nicolas Winding Refn Summons The Avenging Silence

Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn has many irons in the fire of late and perhaps the most interesting is the spiritual sequel to his previous films, the forward-thinking, Toyko-set, spy thriller, The Avenging Silence.

Already in post-production on horror film The Neon Demon – which sees an aspiring model who moves to Los Angeles where her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who’ll use any means to get what they want, starring Keanu Reeves and Christina Hendricks – Refn told Collider that it’s his primary concern, having previously mention the film in past interviews.

“It’s basically a character that appears in my other movies that will now appear again,” he said. “Having done The Neon Demon, which was predominantly women protagonists, but the character that Mads Mikkelsen plays in Valhalla Rising, Ryan Gosling plays him in Drive or Vithaya Pansringarm in Only God Forgives, I want to make a new movie with that character.”

Refn is aiming to shoot the film in Toyko but refused to be drawn on any more details. As for now, it’s currently under consideration with various other ideas including two more horror films The Bringing and I Walk With The Dead.

The Neon Demon should be with us sometime next year.
