Prison Architect Has Earned Over $19 million

That Prison Architect game that Introversion Software has been pouring the last 5 years into? It's already a stupendous hit for the small UK independent studio selling over 1.2 million copies all before it officially launches.

In fact as of September 26th it has earned over $19 million for the company, catapulting the almost-bankrupt game developer into a "very, very healthy" position. Most of their old team has been hired back and Prison Architect will have its own dedicated team put to work post launch for future updates. All this before it launches with version 1.0 next week.

Chris Delay, a co-founder of Introversion, has already started working on prototypes for his next project. It won't have anything to do with prisons or building, teases other co-founder Mark Morris. "I've already done it a little bit, only as prototypes, and I'll be looking for the right time to do that. But we've got to get Prison Architect out and properly supported and get the team in a good cycle so they're producing updates for the game," Delay told Eurogamer.

"Chris has been working on Prison Architect for five years," said Morris, "that's the other thing to remember. Five years is a long time to be working on a project; there just comes a time when you need to be working on something different."

Their biggest challenge now is getting a new team in place "without f***ing it up."

Prison Architect releases on PC October 6th.
