After joining The CW/DC family, Supergirl is bringing her someone from her own family to show. The network has announced that Tyler Hoechlin, of Teen Wolf and Everybody Wants Some!! will guest star in the second season as Kal-El himself, Clark Kent, a.k.a Superman.

The Man of Steel has made a few appearances during the first season – be it as a blurry Superman shaped blur, as a child in a flashback or just by his name. However this is the first time he’ll be portrayed as an actual character in the show.

There’s no word on whether or not he’ll be a recurring character or just a one-off appearance for Metropolis’ finest.

“Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman,” gushed executive producer Andrew Kreisberg. “We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”

This isn’t the first time Superman has appeared on The CW – the network inherited Smallville from its predecessor at The WB which predates the advent of the ‘Arrowverse’.

The CW brought on former Superman Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) to recur on Supergirl as Kara’s foster father.

Hoechlin joins Cain amongst a select group of actors who have portrayed Superman, who include Kirk Alyn, George Reeves, Bob Holiday, Christopher Reeve, John Haymes Newton, Gerard Christopher, Tom Welling, Brandon Routh and Henry Cavill.

Supergirl gets its season 2 premiere on The CW this fall.
