Tom Hanks Stars in Trailer for Espionage Thriller Bridge of Spies
In their first collaboration in nearly a decade, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg reunite for cold war thriller, Bridge of Spies – the true life story of a New Yorker thrust into the murky world of international espionage.
Hanks plays Brooklyn insurance lawyer James Donovan, who’s enlisted by the CIA to defend a captured Russian spy.
Things take a turn for the complicated when a US fighter pilot is captured by the Soviets, and Donovan must rush to Berlin to negotiate a trade; the American pilot for the Russian. And that’s just the beginning of Donovan’s journey into the shadowy world of espionage.
As far as historical stories go, Spielberg has something of a deft eye when bring major events to life. By narrowing the focus on the key players who helped shape the headlines – Munich, Schindler’s List, and Lincoln saw Spielberg on fine form – here’s hoping Bridge of Spies – which looks suitably epic – will earn its place within that illustrious group.
Co-starring Mark Rylance, Scott Shepherd, Amy Ryan, Sebastian Koch, and Alan Alda, Bridge of Spies opens in the UK on October 9 and the US on October 16.
