Rumour has become fact as Benicio Del Toro has officially signed up to play a villain in Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Joining Rian Johnson’s movie, Del Toro told Spanish news site rac1.org that: "Star Wars is coming up, we will see how that turns out. I think we start shooting in March". He then added that "I'm like the villain, but we'll see".

It sounds like he’s playing a duplicitous character or is only one of several villains included in the piece.

Earlier this year Del Toro told Entertainment Tonight: “I can’t tell you much about it but I think that it might happen", he said. "It looks like it’s going to happen, so I’m very excited. I can’t talk too much about it. The script is hard to get. They told me they’d cut my finger if I talk about it… I saw the original one when it came out and it marked me".

Episode VIII is due in cinemas in May 2017, and will pick up many of Star Wars: The Force Awakens' cast. As such, the likes of John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac are expected to headline the line-up.
