The Duke of Burgundy Blu-ray Release Features
British distributors Artificial Eye have released details of their upcoming Blu-ray release of Peter Strickland’s sumptuous The Duke of Burgundy.
Staring Sidse Babett Knudsen (Borgen), Monica Swinn (Hitler’s Last Train), and Chiara D'Anna (Berberian Sound Studio), the film takes place in an unnamed European town where, every day Evelyn cycles to Cynthia's mansion to work as a lowly maid – and every day the cruel, vindictive Cynthia inflicts countless sadistic humiliations upon her. But as the days go by and the pair begin to reveal themselves, it soon becomes clear that the humiliation may not all be of Cynthia's design.
Startling, stylish and heady with atmosphere, The Duke of Burgundy is a dazzling exploration of romance, relationships and desire from Peter Strickland, the multi-award winning director of Berberian Sound Studio.
Laden with wit and brimming with filmic references to classic 70’s exploitation films, it is one of the most remarkable films of the year and will doubtless leave you reeling.
