There's been a little bit of a hubbub online over the legitimacy of a "reckless story" - as described by Randy Pitchford - on Kotaku which reported that Gearbox Software's Battleborn would be going free-to-play in the future.

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford combatted the rumours on Twitter, stating that there are "no plans to convert Battleborn free to play" and that "we have some unannounced plans to do a trial version of the game that would be free and from which retail can be purchased along with DLC."

Furthermore, he confirmed it would be much "more like a traditional demo but integrated so you can keep your progress if you choose to become a customer".

Primarily, the rumour was easy enough to believe considering the steady drop that Battleborn's PC servers have been seeing where, according to Steam Charts, the game saw a peak of just 657 players in the last 30 days.
