It's Not NieR: Android due to Google's Trademark, says Game Director

In the latest issue of EDGE, the director of NieR: Automata reveals the game's original title and why exactly they couldn't use it.

Game Director Taro Yoko stated, "Because it’s a story about androids, I wanted to call it Nier: Android. Obviously Google’s for the trademark [on Android] and we were worried about it. There was no title fixed by the time E3 came, so we had to do the presentation without."

NieR: Automata is, as Yoko says himself, a "very good title ... it's representative because it covers all kinds of meanings". The game is scheduled for a PlayStation 4 exclusive release in 2016.
