Freddie Mercury Biopic Finds New Writer, Ben Whishaw Rumoured to Star

Who wants to live forever! Well Ben Whishaw for one, who’s been rumoured to be taking the lead in the long-delayed, Queen approved, Freddie Mercury biopic.

Despite giving the impression that the film had been shelved after the departure of director and former GamesMaster host Dexter Fletcher, the film is very much burning at a thousand degrees…although we doubt it’s called Mr Fahrenheit.

Ben Whishaw remains the top choice to play Mercury (for a long time it was Sacha Baron Cohen who was set to play him, but he left in the end over creative differences), although he's not signed on the dotted line as of yet. But there is progress, as a fresh writer has been hired.

Anthony McCarten, who bagged an Oscar nomination for his The Theory of Everything script, has joined the film, which is currently called Bohemian Rhapsody. No director is attached to the film just yet, though, so there's still some way to go before this one gets rolling.
