Spider-Man: Homecoming: Robert Downey Jr. In, Michael Keaton Out
Thanks to Marvel and Sony’s deal to lettheir respective heroes play with each other, we’ve now got a brand new Spider-Man joining the likes of Captain America, Black Widow and Hawkeye in Captain America: Civil War.
It was only a matter of time before someonefrom Marvel’s toy set went to play with Sony’s Spider-Man and now we know justwho that will be.
Tony Stark aka Iron Man will appear inSpider-Man: Homecoming.
The upcoming co-production between the two studios will be directed by Jon Watts, which will sidestep the usual originstory in favour of Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, already swinging around New York as his Spidey alter-ego, will deal with Peter’s high school life aswell as his encounters with super villains.
As for Downey, his appearance is part of aplan to add Spider-Man to the Marvel Universe pics from Disney even though Sonyhas rights to the character. It’s likely Iron Man won’t be the only superheroto make an appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
However, unlike the rest of the Marvelplayers, Downey Jr operates on a picture-by-picture basis, so we don’t knowwhether he’s set to appear in more than one Spider-Man movies. His recentrenegotiations included his appearances in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2, as well as Civil War.
With this and his mooted return to BakerStreet for another instalment of Sherlock Holmes, it’s going to be a busy year forDowney Jr. Also confirmed to appear in Spider-Man:Homecoming so far are Marisa Tomei as Aunt May (likewise introduced in CivilWar), Tony Revolori, Laura Harrier and Zendaya.
Michael Keaton had been intalks to play a villain, but according to Deadline, he's not going to be in the film now – despite how awesome a proposition that would be.
But don’t be too sad! As Birth. Movies.Death points out, as one door closes, another opens and this one has JeffGoldblum stood behind it, ready to don the feathers of Vulture for your edification.
Captain America: Civil War is out next weekin the UK and May 6 in the States. Spider-Man: Homecoming, due to startshooting in June, has a July 7, 2017 release date pencilled in.
