Before there were unmanned drones causing a nuisance in the skies of London there were nannies travelling via umbrella on their way to look after wealthy families' children. Disney would like to a see return to Mary Poppins.

According to reports this sequel effort would be set 20 years after the original 1964 Disney musical film, which starred Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. If true then the new film's events would be in the 1930s. Disney is said to be borrowing elements from the other books in the series which would include the first sequel 'Mary Poppins Comes Back'.

Director Rob Marshall (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) is believed to be helming the project for Disney. He recently worked on the Broadway musical adaptation Into The Woods. Can anything capture the same fantastical lunacy of the first? Disney believes so.
