The Nuffield Organisation introduced greater levels of rationalisation among their constituents postwar, and Wolseley was one of the marques that lost its individuality as a result. The 4/50, of 1948, was to all intents and purposes a Morris Oxford MO wearing traditional Wolseley identity tags. Thus, the more stately Wolseley grille was installed, with interior fitments upgraded to suit middle class sensibilities. The Wolseley also junked the Morris’ sidevalve engine and had its own 1476cc overhead-cam four-cylinder of 51bhp instead. Handling wasn’t a strong point though.
