VOLKSWAGEN Beetle (split-screen)
Adolf Hitler had the idea for the ‘Volkswagen’ (People’s Car) and Ferdinand Porsche designed it, for the purposes of getting Nazi Germany mobile. Who would have thought that from such a troubled birth, the Beetle would go on to conquer the world? After the war, the British army restarted production and gradually the car started to grow more refined, finding itself exported globally. The original split-rear window models were built until 1953 and featured an 1131cc rear-mounted air-cooled engine of just 25bhp. A simple, charming and ruggedly-reliable motoring legend.
