The TR3 had been in production for almost a year before it gained its great claim to automotive fame. In September 1956 this became the first production car to be fitted as standard with front disc brakes, beating the Jaguar XK150 by four months. Egg-crate grille marks out the TR3, which also gained an extra 5bhp over the TR2 thanks to larger carbs. Sales were even better, and 90% were exported. The 3A is easily distinguished by its full-width grille and headlamps that were recessed further into the front panel. Public demand brought the welcome addition of external door handles.
