Colin Firth and Emma Stone joust in Woody Allen's charming romantic comedy set in the Jazz Age south of France. Stanley Crawford (Colin Firth) is a successful 1920s English stage magician who dresses up to perform as Oriental illusionist Wei Ling Soo. He's also a lifelong sceptic when it comes to the supernatural. So when pompous Stanley receives an invitation to debunk a fraudulent medium fleecing the wealthy on the Cote d'Azur, he's naturally intrigued. It seems that recently widowed Grace Catledge (Jacki Weaver) has fallen under the spell of self-styled psychic Sophie Baker (Emma Stone), who claims to be able to make contact with her dead husband. Mrs Catledge's son Brice (Hamish Linklater) is entranced by her for different reasons. But Stanley is astounded to find that the beautiful, self-assured Sophie's abilities appear to be genuine! Sumptuously filmed by regular collaborator Darius Khondji, this is Woody Allen at his most deliciously whimsical.
