Star Wars: The Force Awakens (also/formerly known as Star Wars: Episode VII) is an epic space-opera film produced by Walt Disney Pictures, Lucasfilm and Bad Robot Productions. It is the seventh instalment in the Star Wars film series created by George Lucas, and the first film in a new trilogy announced by Walt Disney Studios after the company bought Lucasfilm and the Star Wars license in 2012.

Set approximately 30 years after the defeat of the Empire and the demise of Darth Vader, the plot follows a trio of new, younger leader characters, along with Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker reprising their roles from the previous films. It is being directed by J. J. Abrams. Other performers confirmed to be in the film are: Lupita Nyong'o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, Christina Chong, Miltos Yerolemou, Greg Grunberg, Warwick Davis and Billie Lourd (Carrie Fisher's daughter), John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Max von Sydow.
