STANDARD Flying 12 & 14/12 & 14HP
The 12 and 14hp Standards were introduced in 1936, although revised in 1938 with a notchback instead of fastback appearance. After the hiatus of the war, they bounced back in 1945 with three-inch wider bodies giving more interior space. These sidevalve machines; were simply-engineered but robust. The 12 had a 1609cc engine while the more desirable 14 boasted 1776cc (which gave it a top speed of 70mph), but was initially for export only. The vast majority of 12s and 14s appeared as saloons, although drophead coupés and estates were also available.
