ROCHDALE Olympic

Classic Car

When it appeared in 1960, the Olympic was only the second car to feature a glassfibre monocoque – following hot on the heels of the Lotus Elite. The Olympic was bulbous and lacked the glamour of its rival, but it was well-engineered and handled assuredly thanks to its coil spring set-up. Production endured a critical setback following a fire at the factory a year after launch, but picked up slowly afterwards, being offered in component form or as a complete car. The Olympic II of 1963 moved to Ford (from BMC) for its running gear.
