The Piper GTT was designed by Tony Hilder after being commissioned by racing driver George Henrotte to create the ultimate GT car. The GTT caused a sensation when it was launched, and that was enough to convince Brian Sherwood’s Piper company to put the car into production in kit form, using Ford and Triumph suspension parts, with the engine choice being down to the owner. Initially the car sold well, and quite a few survive today, but Piper fell foul of the introduction of VAT and the 1973 oil crisis, and the company folded the following year.
