It was never going to be easy, replacing the much-loved Minor. Even if it had been a great car. Unfortunately, the Marina was merely mediocre. A strictly conventional machine, much of its running gear was Minor-based and therefore far from cutting edge for the era. A saloon and coupé were available, with engines in 1275cc or 1798cc sizes, the latter unit from the MGB. That should have made the cars quite sporty, but handling was seriously suspect. Gradual improvement followed until replaced by the visually-similar Ital in 1980.
