The Moke was developed as a military vehicle... but the forces failed to appreciate it. So, instead, BMC sold it as a fun fashion accessory. You weren’t one of the in-crowd unless you’d driven down Carnaby Street in one. Unless, of course, you were Patrick McGoohan in The Prisoner instead. Production switched to Australia in 1968, with a rise in engine size from 848cc to 998cc, and then 1098cc with the MkII of 1969. The Moke Californian of 1971 had a 1275cc unit. Portuguese manufacture began in 1980 and ended in 1993.
