MG Magnette ZA/ZB
Nothing less than a quantum leap into the mainstream, this post-BMC MG, designed by Gerald Palmer, was elegant and affordable. Chassis-less saloon design, based on Wolseley 4/44, with indpendent front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and BMC B-series power sold well, and established MG as part of BMC’s badge-engineering portfolio. The 60bhp B-Series engine lacked sparkle, even with twin SU carburettors, but was helped in ZB form when power was uprated to 68bhp. Varitone version had larger rear window.
