Classic Car

Although launched in 1953, specialist manufacturer Jensen didn’t manage to get their aerodynamically-styled 541 into production until 1955, by which time the decision had been taken to use glassfibre for its body. Most of the running gear came courtesy of Austin, with the hefty 3993cc six-cylinder engine borrowed from the Princess. In a lighter Grand Tourer like the 541 it gave a much better account of itself than in BMC’s big limos. 1957’s 541R had more power, while 1960’s 541S was longer and wider for greater space inside.
