Unitary construction reached Humber with the Hawk Series 1 of 1957. Trumpeted as the largest car bodyshell being built in the UK at the time, part of the size was due to the Transatlantic leanings, a big dollop of Detroit converted to Coventry dimensions. The 2267cc overhead valve engine from the previous generation of Hawk, giving 83mph from its 73bhp, was retained until the final MkIVA model. Series II cars had disc brakes, but the biggest change to the family came with the MkIV of 1964, when the cabin changed to a sleeker profile with more glass.
