Genius UK Release Date

I find myself coming down on the side of an overwritten story regarding one of literature’s great overwriters.

They all do their jobs pretty splendidly though so I can’t really complain. But I did notice. As well you might, too.

It makes a convincing argument for viewing Thomas Wolfe's work as a product of the exuberance of the 1920s.

Wolfe’s prodigious gifts notwithstanding, there’s no doubt to whom the title of “Genius” refers, in a film that proves its case with the taste, restraint and fundamental decency...

Genius makes the old-fashioned fresh again, at least for awhile.

The film has not fared well with critics, possibly because critics are used to being edited and thus are not inclined to think of editors as heroic.

The movie—dutifully shot in shades of old-timey sepia—does get better as its staginess falls away, but far too much drama stays on the page.

I wish I could love Genius. It's so thrilling when it clicks. But I can't get past its faults.

Colin Firth, Jude Law more average than brilliant.

You wish Perkins would have shown up with his red pencil during the screenwriting stage, when he might have done some good.
