In the 1960s the Corsair was introduced to plug the void between Cortina and Zephyr. The handsome looks suggested Ford’s Thunderbird reduced in size to British proportions. After two years the original 1498cc engine was replaced by a 1662cc V4 which, while it may have given more oomph, wasn’t noted for its smoothness or sophistication. In 1967, capacity went up again, this time to 1996cc. This led to one of Ford’s ‘E’ offshoots, the 2000E, which justified its Executive status with a different grille, wooden dash and a black vinyl roof.
